For anyone who doesn’t know, the Warthog is an extreme off-road vehicle featured in the Halo video game franchise and during the past year, Hoonigan has teamed up with Microsoft to make a life-size, working version of the beast.
The team at Hoonigan started with a chassis that had a four-wheel steering system to maneuver the massive truck. However, significant modifications had to be made to the chassis as it was originally designed for a rock crawler and its cabin was tiny in comparison to the Warthog.
The chassis was cut and the builders lengthened it, widened it, and ultimately made the base for the crazy off-roader.
The process of making the frame of the Warthog was documented in the first video Hoonigan made about the project. The second video they made shows the construction of the powertrain.
The Warthog in Halo has a 12-cylinder engine with hydrogen injection and has a limited top speed of a mere 78 mph but for their model, Hoonigan chose a 438 Ford V8 that was built and twin turbocharged.
It produces over 1,000 horsepower and was requested by Microsoft to have this much because they wanted it to be able to hit 100 mph, likely because of promotional content or movie specifications.
More videos will be released that detail the finishing of the build, but the completed vehicle is shown for the first time in the film, Free Guy, that premiered this year.
